Project Details

This research project investigated the design of cloister gardens of the Dominican Order, their design requirements, and their role in religious communities today. It is in the interest of Dominican communities and their landscape architects to have a guide to the history, symbolism, function, and design of Dominican cloister gardens. This project develops such a guide, which will be a valuable resource in any cloister garden design, giving the designer critical historical background and information about contemporary use.
