Project Details

The site concept is inspired by the historical geomorphology of the region, which is characterized by a series of ridges and ravines that have supported rich forests and water resources for the area. The site will be designed into a landform that not only becomes an integral part of the hospital buildings but also becomes an extension of the existing regional character. This arboretum like setting, designed with sustainable strategies and Best Management Practice, will provide various opportunities for healing and activities for the hospital patients, visitors, and staff as well as for the larger community of Lake Forest. Each area of the site will feature natural amenities that take advantage of the existing elements such as wetlands, forests, and open fields. Moving through the existing trees, a new entry drive will open to an expansive view of the detention pond, reflection pool and weir wall and the new building complex. The areas along the property lines will be designed to provide graded landscape buffers for the adjacent neighborhoods to the south and west of the site. The site development will provide a connective route between Deerpath Road and the intersection of S. Waukeegan Road and Westmoreland Road for the extensive regional bike trail system. Walkways and bike paths will connect a series of natural amenities and hospital facilities that will thread through the campus environment.
