Project Details
The design team worked with the City of Wheaton to revitalize their downtown through rightsizing streets and right-of-ways to bring back nature and economic vitality, while respecting its historic character. This revitalization project demonstrates evidence of community-driven priorities in carving public spaces from the existing right-of-way and creating a desirable location for new development interest as a transit-oriented destination in the region. As a result of the reinvigorated 16-block downtown area, the city has redefined the right-of-ways to create regional attractions within the downtown core where limited gathering space existed and successfully reclaimed the public realm for people and nature.
