Gary Hilderbrand FASLA FAAR, the 2017 winner of the American Society of Landscape Architects Design Medal, is a principal of Reed Hilderbrand LLC. He is also The Peter Louis Hornbeck Professor in Practice at Harvard Graduate School of Design, where he has taught since 1990.
Notable projects include Long Dock Park in Beacon, NY, the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, MA, and campus projects at Duke University, Yale, Harvard, and MIT. Reed Hilderbrand was recognized as ASLA’s 2013 Firm of the Year. Hilderbrand is a fellow of the American Academy in Rome, where he was the Mercedes T. Bass Resident in Landscape Architecture for the fall of 2017. In 2017, he was also named by Design Intelligence as one of America’s top 25 educators in design.
The Peter Schaudt Lecture in Landscape Architecture at IIT invites a landscape architect who, through their professional and academic practices, has served as an influential mentor of subsequent generations of Landscape Architects and has an outstanding reputation as a colleague working in collaboration with other disciplines. These are characteristics for which Peter Schaudt was widely admired and a mission of this lecture series is to celebrate and perpetuate those qualities.
