Jim Angel, PhD
Former Illinois State Climatologist (1997-2018), Adjunct, Illinois State Water Survey, Prairie Research Institute, University of Illinois 

After receiving an M.S. in atmospheric science from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1984, Jim Angel joined the Illinois State Water Survey that same year. After receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois in 1996, he became the State Climatologist for Illinois in 1997. He retired as Illinois State Climatologist in 2018 but remains an affiliate of the Illinois State Water Survey. 

 

Dave Frigo, PLA, ASLA, LEED AP BD+C
Design Principal, Hitchcock Design Group 

As a leader in the education studio at Hitchcock Design Group, Dave has excelled in creative yet pragmatic planning and design solutions since 1989. He has degrees in landscape architecture and ornamental horticulture and adds measurable value to all phases of project design and construction. As a project manager and project designer with over 30 years of experience, Dave is well versed in a variety of projects related to higher education. His understanding of the aesthetic qualities and cultural requirements of a diverse palette of plant materials helps the project team effectively evaluate, create, and manage distinctive and sustainable project environments.  

 

Julia Noordyk
Water Quality and Coastal Communities Specialist, University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute 

Julia Noordyk is an outreach specialist with the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute where she works with coastal communities on a variety of sustainability and water quality topics including green infrastructure, clean marinas, and climate resilience. Since 2016, Julia has helped Great Lakes municipalities identify barriers to green infrastructure through local code and ordinance audits. Julia has a M.S. degree in conservation biology and sustainable development from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a B.S. in zoology from Colorado State University.  

 

Chad Rigsby, PhD
Research Scientist and Technical Support Specialist, Bartlett Tree Research Laboratories
Research Affiliate, The Morton Arboretum 

Chad received his Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences from Wright State University in 2016 and spent two years as a postdoctoral research scientist at The University of Rhode Island. Chad was hired by the Bartlett Tree Research Laboratories as a Research Scientist and Technical Support Specialist in 2018, based at The Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL outside of Chicago. Chad’s research focuses on a variety of topics centered on trees including pruning and biomechanics, soil and root management, pest management, tree stress, growth-defense tradeoffs, and tree planting practices, and spans all levels of biological organization, from the molecular and biochemical to the ecological. As a technical support specialist Chad works with Bartlett Tree Experts arborists and other groups to educate on and implement best management practices and science-driven tree care.
